Save the date for the great Seattle science-writer soirée, the NSWA Holiday Party and Annual Membership Meeting.

Brought to you in part by our premiere sponsor, Pacific Science Center.

Celebrate the new year with your science-writing peers on Thursday, Jan. 11 at a Seattle landmark that has wowed science fans of all ages for more than 50 years, the Pacific Science Center.

Register online now to reserve your spot. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. Not a member? Consider joining or renewing before you register.

Your $25 admission fee ($30 for nonmembers) includes catered appetizers, beer, wine, soft drinks, and the chance to reconnect and network with science writers from all around the Pacific Northwest. As you enter from the covered entrance on Denny Way, be sure to check out the museum’s interactive exhibits while you make your way to our exclusive event space, the future home of an exciting new exhibit on the nature of reality. Watch exciting laser shows in the 80 ft. wide domed theater adjacent to our party space. Take fun snapshots with your friends at our photo station, cast your vote as we update the NSWA bylaws, and welcome the newest members of the NSWA board.

We’ll be displaying recent books and other work by NSWA members and slides from the past year’s NSWA events. Don’t be afraid to be a show-off! Share a book or article you’ve published this year with your colleagues by putting it on display at the annual party. Email Ashley Braun with the title of your book or article and a short description (100 words or less) about you and your work.

Talented book editor? Sharp-eyed fact-checker? Have a skill or service related to science communication you’d like to promote to your colleagues (and potential future clients)? Leave your card and a description (100 words or less) on our skills and services table.

For those who want to extend the evening, reserve your tickets now for the 10 p.m. showing that evening of the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi movie in the IMAX theater at the Pacific Science Center.

  • 6:30 p.m. – Doors open at the museum’s south entrance on Denny Way
  • 8:00 p.m. – Welcoming remarks, a message from the PSC president, and introduction of the new NSWA board members
  • 10:00 p.m. – Party ends. IMAX showing of Star Wars: The Last Jedi begins (separate ticket required)
  • All evening – Snap selfies, solo and in groups, with fun science props; peruse books by your peers at the authors’ table and colleagues’ business cards at the skills and services table; enjoy the buffet (vegetarian options available), hosted bar, and laser shows

Pacific Science Center’s Claypool Garage is located on the corner of 2nd Avenue North and Denny Way and provides a covered walkway directly into our south entrance, where you can check in for the party. The three levels of parking include designated disabled spaces. The garage costs $7 after 4pm and closes at 12:30am.

Take the Seattle Center Monorail from Westlake Center, located in the heart of downtown Seattle. The trip takes only 90 seconds. Many Seattle Metro buses will also drop you off at the entrance to Pacific Science Center, including routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 13, 24 and D Line.
