Let your inner geek out to play with friends and colleagues at our biggest and best event of the year! Join us on Thursday, Jan. 10 at Paul Allen’s Living Computers Museum + Labs for the 2019 Northwest Science Writers Holiday Party and Annual Meeting.
Your ticket includes free admission to all three levels of this unique and hugely entertaining museum (a $16 value), plus catered appetizers, a dessert buffet, and an open bar.
Talk shop and have fun with your science-writing peers as you build and operate robots, immerse your brain in virtual reality, play classic video arcade games, experience a 180-degree driving simulator, tour the mainframe room, and enjoy dozens of other interactive exhibits. Remember the first computer you ever used? You’ll probably find one of those models among the museum’s unrivalled collection of vintage computers, nearly all of them fully operational. Play with a rare Apple I, a Xerox Alto, or a PC running Windows 1.0!
Register online by Dec. 27 to receive a $10 discount on each ticket. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. Not yet an NSWA member? Save $5 on your ticket by joining or renewing before you register.
In addition to all the entertainment offered by the museum, attendees will be able to snap selfies with friends at our photo station, remotely chat with each other via roving telepresence robots, and welcome the newest members of the NSWA board.
We’ll be displaying recent books and other work by NSWA members. Don’t be afraid to show off a book or article you’ve published this year by putting it on display. Email Ashley Braun with the title of your book or article and a description (up to 100 words) of you and your work.
Use our networking table to connect with colleagues and find future clients. Whether you are a talented book editor, a sharp-eyed fact-checker, or offer some other skill or service related to science communication, you can place your cards or flyers out for display.
