Ashli Blow (@ashliblow) writes for the Guardian about new research in Oregon on the impact of poor air quality on cows’ milk production. In recent years, wildfires have filled the air with harmful smoke — another insult to animals already stressed by high heat — and farms in the region are rarely equipped with the appropriate facilities to protect them from these new threats. Gathering better data on the effects of these stressors on cows will help the state’s dairy producers adapt, she writes. Image: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Oregon Farm Service Agency
