For Fred Hutch News Service, Sabrina Richards wrote a two-part series about how we are all peppered with cells bearing cancer-causing mutations … and yet, most of us are cancer-free. She looks at how cancer biologists came to better understand the complex processes, beyond genetics, keeping our bodies in a healthy balance, and leads us through several of the mechanisms our bodies use to keep problem cells in line. She explains how understanding these natural processes could help scientists develop new ways to prevent or stop cancer’s growth. Image: Public domain via Wikimedia Commons
