New member Rachael Hoover writes about an exciting experiment that NASA is conducting to explore the effects of space travel on the human body. Instead of using actual humans, the experiment will be conducted with fruit flies. Despite their small size, these flies same a lot of genetic code with humans, and owing to their compact nature, they are a great candidate for sending to space. Using commercial partners, NASA plans to advance research into DNA damage and repair via this mission. In long space missions, astronaut health is a critical concern, one which has hopes that this research can help answer some questions. Follow Hoover and their story to see what lies ahead for the experiment.
