Forest trial in the Pacific NorthwestNew member Alyssa Gray writes a story on how the University of Washington Bothell is incorporating ease of access to nature, a hallmark of the Pacific Northwest, into a living laboratory for further research and development. By using the nearby Hooven forest which is a quarter hour away from campus, students have nearly unfettered access to a diverse ground of forests and wetlands. Publicly owned in a conservational project by the state, a joint program between many bodies such as non-profits and schools also aid in building knowledge, not just awareness about the land. Having students track the flora and fauna within the conservational grounds provides a win-win situation in which the community grows together on a whole.
