Hiking through burn zones is something that many hikers consider to be unseemly and not worth their time, Yan writes. However, in her piece where she recounts her adventures onto the Pacific Crest Trail, she makes the argument that there is a purpose in hiking through burned out sections of nature. Of course, there is an inherent danger, more so than some regular trails, as brittle wood and weakened trees. But fire, she says, has been a ritual in nature for eon’s past and burn zones themselves are just a page in the history of the land. Through ash comes regrowth. Yan believes that bun zones also create the stepping stones for further ecological diversity and helps usher in a tale, one not just telling of past history, but also looking to the future. For more insight on her thoughts with burn zones, please follow the journey through the trial in this piece from Yan.
