NSWA members explored Seattle’s largest city park on a guided walk from Magnolia Bluff down to Puget Sound. This hike on Aug. 25 covered a three-mile loop that passed through a variety of habitats including meadow, forest, and beach.
The tour group had a great time walking slowly from the bluff top historic section of Fort Lawton to the Puget Sound beach at the bottom in Discovery Park with Cathy McDonald. She explained the boom and bust cycles of the Fort, which was a staging grounds for both world wars. Among those on the tour was botanist Sarah Gage, who helped add more scientific details to discussions of the ash and maple trees that were common on the bluff.
