A story by new member Michael Crowe (@MichaelReports) for the Sierra Club gives us a look at the invasion of the European green crab into Washington waters, and what local officials are doing to keep “one of the worst invasive species in the world” contained. An emergency declaration by the governor at the beginning of the year freed up millions of dollars for extermination efforts. As a result, tribes and other organizations managed to kill nearly 180,000 of these aggressive, adaptable, destructive crustaceans by September — but is that enough? For his story, Crowe speaks to scientific experts and visits a Lummi Nation site that is ground zero in the fight to control this crab. Photo by Michael Crowe / Sierra
