From new member Allessandra DiCorato, a story about a scientist diving deeper into the immune system in our nasal passages. During COVID, the race against the virus had been between countries, labs, and researchers to find out how the pathogen affected humans and more importantly our immunity. Different types of immune responses such as innate immunity and adaptive immunity are what guards us against present and future attacks. This information was key to vaccine developers at the time. Though the virus attacked through the upper airway, little literature at the time had described immune system effects in that region. Unfettered, the scientist began her own tests and continued on to valuable findings. Learn more with DiCorato’s piece on how this scientist is helping us toward better diagnoses, vaccines via better understanding of our nasal passages.
