New NSWA member Hannah Furfaro (@HannahFurfaro) writes for the Seattle Times about the quest to develop vaccines against addictive drugs, which began decades ago and may soon come to fruition thanks to a new research center at the University of Washington. A recently launched clinical trial is evaluating a vaccine designed to stimulate an immune response against oxycodone that blunts the drug’s euphoric and dangerous effects. If it proves safe and effective, this vaccine, and others that follow against other drugs, may help stave off relapse among people in recovery and save lives. Image by Intropin via Wikimedia Commons
