We’ve all had the frustrating experience of trying to hold a conversation during a loud party or at a noisy gathering, yet a solution may be on the horizon as new member William Poor pens. Researchers at the University of Washington have developed smart headphones that isolate the wearer’s conversation partners in a crowded setting. By using an AI model that analyzes the cadence of the conversation and cancels out voices that fall outside the parameters, particular voices can be isolated and enhanced. The researchers believe that this may be a promising technology to develop hearing aids and allow currently users of hearing aids to filer their background and soundscape. For more information on this intriguing technology, follow William Poor’s piece on it.
