However, that is far from just a localized phenomenon as a report from the The Trevor Project that surveyed over 18,000 LGBTQ+ teenagers to young adults with signs of a sizable percentage having had suicidal thoughts in the past year. Gender identity or sexual orientation are not the cause behind their mental woes, but rather politics from local to federal that create a hostile and unwelcoming environment. Discrimination, bullying, and other barriers pose negative impacts on the lives of LGBTQ+ youth, a situation that exists in many states.
