For GeekWire, Richard Yonck (@ryonck) writes about a new open generative language model by and for scientists that is being created by the Allen Institute for AI. The first-of-its kind model will be designed to advance scientific understanding and discovery, providing access to and education about all aspect’s of its development, implementation and use — in contrast to the current, commercial models that are typically a black box. Yonck writes that the new model’s creators hope it helps the field overcome existing functional and ethical problems and that it becomes the best of its class in the world.
